About our CKK/CSK range
Cross+Morse offer the complete range of CKK and CSK Sprag Clutches, with option for a rubber seal (2RS versions), optional fitting with a key instead of press-fit to the shaft (N suffix) or a keyway on the outer race as well as the inner, to allow assembly of the clutches with only a light interference fit (NN suffix).
The clutches consist of:
- A high strength carbon alloy steel precision ground outer race.
- A free rotating bearing retainer fitted flush with the outer race.
- Hardened chrome alloy steel balls to provide concentricity and
equal distribution of radial support within the clutch. - A precision ground alloy steel inner race.
- A moulded nylon Sprag cage to equally space the Sprags.
- Heavy duty garter spring located within the Sprag cage ensures accurate Sprag engagement.
- High carbon steel profiled Sprags support the compressive loads when the clutch is transmitting torque.
- Light retaining endplates attached to the outer race help retain lubricant and protect clutch components from the environment.
Clutch types CKKN and CSKN-RS have keyways on the inner races to enable optional fitting with a key instead of press-fit to the shaft. The outer is still fitted into the housing with a heavy press fit, the bearing clearance being modified to allow for one race only having the heavy press-fit. Clutch types CKKNN have a keyway on the outer race as well as the inner, to allow assembly of the clutches with only a light interference fit. These clutches have the same build as the CKK series, with a high performance sprag assembly combined with a deep groove bearing, to provide a compact, high torque, but low cost freewheel, suitable for both overrun and backstop applications. The lack of press-fit makes them unsuitable for accurate indexing. Clutches with an RS suffix include a rubber seal in the bore of the retainers to provide complete sealing. Type CSKN-RS are constructed with wider races to enable the use of a full rubber seal for best protection.
